Translation Requirements for Dual Citizenship “Right of Blood"

In general, the Italian Consulates require that  all U.S. Vital Records pertaining to you, your Italian ascendants, and birth certificates of your children under the age of 18 must be translated into Italian. If you are divorced, your divorce certificate must be translated into Italian.  Documents that do not need to be translated are those relating to the “non-applying” side, U.S. Certificate of Naturalization or any statement releasing information on the naturalization status of the ancestor. “Apostilles” do not need to be translated.  Death certificates of Italian Born ancestors are also require translation.

Please note, that at this time the Consulates of Philadelphia and Miami only require the Applicant’s U.S. Vital Records to be translated.  This includes birth, marriage, and divorce records and birth certificates for children under 18.

Translation Requirements for Spousal Applicants

(individuals applying through a spouse who is currently an Italian Citizen).

Applicant’s birth certificate, marriage certificate if married in the U.S. and not registered in Italy, certificate of U.S. Residency, Police and F.B.I. Clearance.

Documents issued in countries other than the U.S.: All such Vital Records must comply with the local regulation on the legalization of documents.  They must be translated into Italian, and the translation certified by the Italian Consulate in the Country where the document was issued.

All of our translations for Italian Dual Citizenship are accompanied by a Letter of Translation signed by Dott. Domenico Meschino, Director of our Translation Department.  Dott. Meschino is a graduate of La Sapienza Univeristy in Rome, and his translations have been accepted by all of our Italian Consulates in the United States!

"The Consulate was very pleased with the translations ICAP did on my documents.  I also found Drs. Meschino and Masi a good source of information that I would not have gotten anywhere else.  They were always helpful!"
